The Maple Beech and Cameron Area Lake Property Owners Association

(and maybe winning, too!)

As we have for several years, now, the MBC will once again be supporting, and encouraging others to support, our local Food Bank system this Thanksgiving holiday. Our efforts, and the generosity of our members and neighbours have, over the past few Turkey Times, allowed us to direct thousands of dollars and, literally, tonnes of food donations to our food banks and to help many of the less fortunate.

This year, as with 2020, the constraints of COVID 19 mean that our usual food collection and delivery program, based at the St. Peter’s Church on Maple Lake, will not be taking place. These same constraints, however, have meant that the importance of the services given by the food banks has increased, as have the challenges of reaching sufficient funding.

Food and personal care item donations are, and will always be, important to the food bank and we encourage our members and neighbours to give in this manner: At the end of the cottage season many of us will be finding that we have over-stocked on basic dry and canned goods. We can help others, as well as save space in our vehicles heading back to the city, by dropping these items off directly at the Minden Community Food Centre.

Money donations (more bang for the buck!) can be of even more help to the food bank: The MCFC can purchase more for each dollar than we can and they can also purchase perishable items and essentials that run low from donated stocks as they are required.

Giving along with the MBC can stretch those dollars even further! The MBC will (as we have for a few years) match any donations by our members and friends up to ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

This year there’s even more reason to give and be thankful…a chance to win a really nice thank you from us that you can hang on your wall.

The Food Bank gives tax receipts for each donation received over $25.00 ~ this year, for each donation of $25.00 or more the food bank receives from an MBC member (or someone on our extended email contact list, which you are if you’re reading this…even if you’re not currently a member) you will also receive one entry to win a beautiful, framed Robert Batemen print! A donation of $50.00 will get your name in twice…and so on!

The print, Afternoon Glow – Snowy Owl, is one of an edition of 950 prints numbered and signed by the artist and can be seen on our website. The print has been donated by one of our members to encourage giving.

No matter what you are able to donate to help the Minden Community Food Center in it’s work we want to match it, so make sure that we know you’ve given: Mark your cheque with “MBC Match” or send “MBC Match” as a note with your eTransfer or on-line donation; the good folks at the food bank will keep track and let us know.

We will match, up to $1000.00, all donations between September 20th and October 11th and a draw will be held once we receive a list of donations from MCFC.
